The family line listed here is that of the European ancestors of the three Flory brothers, Johannes, George, and Adolph, who immigrated to Philadelphia in 1754 on the John and Elizabeth. It traces back their origin to their earliest known ancestor, Hans Flori, who was born in Switzerland in 1610 and who emigrated to Birkenau in Darmstadt-Hesse, Germany sometime prior to 1650. No one knows precisely where in Switzerland Hans was born, but it may have been somewhere in or near the Canton of Solothurn where there was a large concentration of Fluris. If so, Hans may have been born Catholic, as that is the predominant religion in the area. The line still continues in Birkenau today. In the 1960's, there was a major reunion of Fluri descendants with over 300 in attendance.
